Giuseppina  Baldassarre-Tedeschi (Soprano) (Trani 1881 - Roma 1961)

with Carlo Albani

She studied singing at Liceo Rossini in Pesaro with Brambilla-Ponchielli and Anna Vestri. She made her debut in 1905 at Teatro Coccia, Novara in Mascagni’s opera ‘’Iris’’. Till 1930 she had a successful career in famous italian opera theaters. In 1909 she guested at the Teatro San Carlo, Lisbon (among other things in the premiere of the opera ‘’Amar de perdica’’ of Arroyo). In 1912 she appeared at Teatro Real, Madrid (as Nedda in ‘’Pagliacci’’), in 1914 at Budapest State Opera. She appeared with great success at the Teatro Costanzi, Rome (1915-16, ‘’Tosca’’ and ‘’Madama Butterfly’’), then again from 1919-20 and, in the end, from 1925-26; there she appeared among other things in ‘’Andrea Chenier’’, ‘’Otello’’, ‘’Boris Godunov’’ and ‘’La Wally’’. In 1915 she took part at the Teatro Comunale, Bologna in the premiere of the opera ‘’L'Elisir di vita’’ of Lozzi; since 1914 she guested several times at the Teatro Comunale, Piacenza, last in 1926 as Charlotte in Massenet’s ‘’Werther’’. She was one of the big Verismo sopranos of her generation. In 1931 she finished her career and worked as a pedagogue in Milan. From 1936-38 she was a professor in Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome. Famous singers Licia Albanese, Pia Tassinari and Stella Roman belonged to her pupils.
