Giulio Fregosi (Baritone) (Voghera 1887— Milan 1951)
His debut took place in 1909 at the Teatro Apollo in Lugano where he performed as Silvio in ‘’Pagliacci’’ of R. Leoncavallo. In 1916 at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan Fregosi sang the role of Alfio in P. Mascagni’s ‘’Cavalleria rusticana’’. In 1918 he appeared at the Teatro Lirico in Milan, this time in G. Verdi’s ‘’Rigoletto’’. Guest apprances followed in Cario (1923) and Nice (1926). This was followed by appearance in ‘’Il Barbiere di Siviglia’’ at the Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris. The next year, Fregosi went to Madrid where at the Teatro Zarzuela he performed as Marcello in Puccini’s ‘’La Boheme’’. In 1931 he made his debut at La Scala in Milan. Here he appeared in G. Verdi’s ‘’Falstaff’’. He had a long career, which mostly centered in Italian opera theatres. He retired from the stage in 1949.
