Manfredi Polverosi (Tenor) (Capraia/Firenze 1885 - Roma 1965)
He studied singing with Pieraccini and Jacopo Manfrini and made his debut in 1906 at the Arena Borsellini of Empoli in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’. After successful appearances at the Italian opera theatres, he was engaged to sing at La Scala in Milan (In 1908), where he and made his debut as Enzo in A. Ponchielli’s ‘’La Gioconda’’. The same year, he appeared at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires in ‘’Rigoletto’’, ‘’La Gioconda’’, ‘’Il Barbere di Siviglia’’ and ‘’Cristoforo Colombo’’. Polverosi appeared with great success not only in Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro and Barcelona, but also in Russia. In 1915 he guested in Havana. On 15. 1. 1915 Polverosi sang at La Scala, Milan in the premiere of the opera ‘’La Notte di leggenda’’ of Alberto Franchetti. In 1924 he took part at the Teatro Dal Verme, Milan in the premiere of the opera ‘’Giocondo e il suo Re’’ of Carlo Jachino. From 1936 to 1943 he was a manager of the Centro Sperimentale di Canto e di Danza of the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. Rina Gigli, Orietta Moscucci and Guido Mancini belong to his pupils. When he stopped singing, he became a vocal pedagogue. Unfortunately he died in poverty.
