Carlo Barrera (Tenor) (Spain 1870 - ?)
He had a long-standing, successful career as a heroic tenor in the big Spanish stages, especially at the Teatro Liceo of Barcelona and at the Teatro Real of Madrid. During the first decade of the 20s century he also became known in Italy. In 1900 he sang at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, in 1901 at the Teatro Lirico, Milan as Samson in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’, in 1901 he also appeared at the Teatro Regio of Parma singing the roles of Radames in ‘’Aida’’ (as a partner of the Spanish soprano Carmen Bonaplata-Bau) and Cavaradossi in ‘’Tosca’’. In 1901 he took part in an Egypt tour of an Italian opera troupe which appeared in Cairo and Alexandria and he sang again in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’ and ‘’Otello’’. In Egypt his partner was Titta Ruffo. After finishing his career he taught singing in Odessa and Kharkov.
