The Manhattan Opera Company from New York under the personal supervision of Maestro Alfredo Salmaggi, present for the first time in Monreal a colossal open air production of Aida with same cast as appeared Saturday Eve., Aug. 2, at Polo Grounds, New York, includes: Anna Lissetskaya, soprano; Lidia Van Gilder, contralto; Giovanni Chiaia, tenor; Edoardo Albano, baritone; Nino Ruisi, bass.
Giovanni Chiaia, dramatic tenor, engaged to sing the role of Radames in the mammoth open air production of Verdi’s ‘’Aida’’ at Polo Grounds last Saturday evening, comes directly from an engagement at La Scala, Milan, where he has been appearing under the baton of Toscanini for several seasons, singing many of the leading dramatic roles. Chiaia’s voice is said to be of brilliancy and power. In his ten years’ artistic career Chiaia has sung in La Scala, Milan; Teatro Colon, in Buenos Aires; Covent Garden of London; The Royal Opera, Madrd; San Carlo, Naples; Imperial Opera, Moscow, and Royal Opera, Vienna.
