Piero Schiavazzi (Tenor) (Cagliari 1875 – Rome 1949)
He studied singing at the Liceo Musicale "G. Rossini" of Pesaro which was then directed by Pietro Mascagni. Schiavazzi was charmed by the dynamic style of Verismo. He devoted himself to the works of the "young school" of which he soon became one of the most representative singers. His voice had a charming timbre of pure tenor color which was described as having a glossy texture and golden quality. Schiavazzi debuted on November 22, 1898 at the Rome Teatro Costanzi performing the role of the Cenciaiuolo in the the world premier of Mascagni's ‘’Iris’’. From then on Schiavazzi sang at most of the major houses including Teatro San Carlo in Naples, The Metropolitan Opera House, Teatro Regio in Parma, Lisboa, Teatro Costanzi in Rome, Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, Petruzzelli in Bari, La Scala in Milan, Bucarest, South America, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Barcelona, Teatro Communale in Bologna, Carlo Felice in Genoa, Covent Garden in London, Teatro Regio in Turin, Egypt, Pesaro, Teatro Sociale in Rovigo, and Teatro Garibaldi in Treviso. After 1922 he began to perform much less.
