Umberto Macnez (Tenor) (Pesaro 1878 - Pesaro 1947)
He studied singing with Felice Coen in Pesaro and made his debut In 1900 at Politeama of Sassari as Arturo in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’. Since 1908 he started to appear always as the first tenor making his second debut at the Teatro Reale of Madrid as Edgardo in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’. In the 1912-1913 season he performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he sang also in the premiere of the Offenbach’s ‘’Les contes d'Hoffmann’’. During his successful career Macnez appeared in many famous opera theatres: Teatro Reale (Madrid, 1915), Teatro Liceo (Barcelona, 1917), La Scala (Milan, 1917), Teatro Costanzi (Rome, 1918) etc. He retired from the stage in 1927 and taught singing at the Liceo Musicale of Pesaro.
