Giuseppe Oxilia (Tenor) (Montevideo, Uruguay 1865- Milan, Italy 1919)
He received his education in Italy. In 1885 he made his debut at the Teatro Lirico in Barcelona as Arturo in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’. He became famous as an interpreter of the title part in Verdi’s opera ‘’Otello’’. Beside Francesco Tamagno he counted as the best Otello of his time. He appeared as Otello at La Scala (1889) with Victor Maurel in the part of the Jago He sang with great success in the famous opera theatres of Italy, Spain and South America. On 19. 11. 1890 he performed as Otello in the opening night of the Teatro Argentina, La Plata (Argentina). After the withdrawal (1903) he devoted himself in teaching.
