David Yuzhin (Tenor) ( Ekaterinoslav 1863 - Moscow 1923)
His real name was David Pisitko. In a youth Yuzhin sang in church chorus. He took singing lessons at Taganrog from Regent Anastaseva. According to D. Agreneva-Slavjanskaya Yuzhin has gone to St. Petersburg, where, after unsuccessful attempt to act in a conservatory, took lessons of singing from M. Leonova. Later, in Europe from Clark and O. Sefferi, P. Vidal and S. Capelli. Since 1892 Yuzhin appeared in chorus of Mariinsky Theatre. He made his debut in 1894, at the Kazansko-Saratovsk opera company. From 1896-1900 Yuzhin appeared in Samara, Kharkov, Odessa, Perm (1896-99), Kiev (1900, 1912), from 1901-1908 he sang at the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre, where made his debut as Raoul in ''Gli Ugonotti'', one of his best roles. At the same time sang also at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, from 1908-1912 at the Zimin Opera. In 1902 with great success Yuzhin appeared in Italy (Florence, Turin), where he participated in the premiere of Rendano's opera ''Consuela'', also in South America (1907), Brussels. David Yuzhin also appeared in Tiflis, Kazan, Saratov, Odessa, Yalta, Baku, Ekaterinoslav. In different years has organized some own enterprises with which went on tour on cities of Russia. He possessed protruding by beauty soft timbre, dramatic talent, had bright scenic appearance. The greatest success had as performer of roles in the West-European repertoirе. His wife was great russian soprano Natalya Ermolenko-Yuzhina (1881-1937).
